ICM20648 and nRF52832

Hi everyone,

I am currently working on a project that requires ICM-20648 and nRF52832. Is there an I2C driver available for these devices? The end goal would be to display accelerometer and gyroscope readings via a terminal emulator program like TeraTerm on my laptop.

I found some libraries for MPUxxxx series but none for ICM-20648. It would be great help if someone could point me to some good resources for such a library.

Start with the SDK examples to get your basic I2C (ie, TWI) comms working.

just via a wired connection, or over BLE? Or some other radio link?

Just via a wired connection (USB) from the nRF52832 (PCA10040) development kit to my laptop. I am also using the InvenSense UEVB (Universal Evaluation Board) with appropriate jumper wires connected to the nRF52832 DK.

So what's the point of using an nRF52 if you're not going to use the BLE?

There are a lot simpler processors for a simple UART-to-TWI if you don't want BLE!

Anyhow, as suggested earlier, start with the SDK examples.

I would suggest that you start with the UART examples to get the comms working with your PC - this will be invaluable for diagnostics later as you get the TWI working ...

Note that the nRF52832 itself does not have USB - there is a USB-to-UART converter (in the J-Link-OB) on the PCA10040.

Hi thanks for your reply! Well, I am really new to embedded systems and my college supervisor assigned me this task to get started on embedded systems haha. I find it quite confusing and difficult to work with the Nordic SDK which is why I thought I should ask for help.

Regarding you suggestion to use the UART examples, would that be relevant? ICM-20648 supports SPI and I2C interface, not sure that UART can work though...

If this is a college assignment, then you really should be going to your supervisor for help!

That is exactly why I suggested that this is not a good choice for such a project!

The Nordic SDK does assume that you are already a competent embedded developer.

You said you wanted a UART connection to the PC ?

I said you should do that first.

Having first got that working, you would then move on to the I2C part - and, as I said, having the UART comms would be very helpful in doing that.
