How to use sd_ble_gatts_service_changed?

In our product we have both a DFU profile and an application profile which is confusing Mac OS X 10.9 "Mavericks" since it caches device services unless it receives a service changed indication.

The sd_ble_gatts_service_changed requires a start and end service handle, is there a way to determine what the max used service handle is? Passing 0xFF as max causes the routine to return an error.

Thanks for your help and suggestions Pål. We’ve done a more exhaustive check of our code to make sure that we’re doing things correctly, and I think the problem is indeed in the OS X Core Bluetooth framework.

I’ve opened a bug report with Apple, so hopefully they can fix it. Thank you for all your assistance!

Has anyone figured out how to do this without bonding? I'm seeing NRF_ERROR_INVALID_STATE when calling sd_ble_gatts_service_changed(). I imagine this is due to calling sd_ble_gatts_sys_attr_set() with NULL, as mentioned in previous post.

I need to reboot into DFU and have OSX completely rediscover the new characteristics.

Service Changed as per the specifications is relevant only when the devices are bonded, otherwise they are implementation specific.

The most appropriate way to do a DFU would be to merge the DFU Service and the Application Services so there is no need to change the Service handles. This will help you avoid a lot of pain across BLE central implementations. The closest example for this is the DFU examples for the nRF8001 , see BLE over UART with DFU example

You should be able to implement this in the same way for the nRF51
