I recently blogged about Nordic and Hackathons, but didn't include too much information; I knew already there was something coming. And now it is finally published: #HackDublin - Ireland's First Design & Hardware Hackathon. In this comprehensive article by InspiredStartups you will find videos of the idea pitches, team interviews, final pitches, and some presentation. If you are involved in the maker movement you probably want to see the talk by Mark Hatch, the founder of TechShop.
If you click on the image below you will see an interview with my favourite team, the CITY+ team. They used the nRF51 (with Bluetooth Smart) as a central part of their product, and was jugded the second best team in the hackathon.
Two of the team members, Vince and Yann, came to Dublin to promote their startup, Busybee.io, at WebSummit, so perhaps this idea will become a commercial product. In any case, I loved the fact that this hackathon wasn't limited only to technical feasibility, but also included design aspects, which I hope will be apparent in the interview and the pitch.
Other notable Bluetooth Smart users were Treo and Honeycomb. While listening to the ideas pitching there quite a few ideas that could benefit from Bluetooth Smart, but if you are curious on this part you better see the pitches and judge for yourself :)
