Request for nrfutil Windows executable

Hi (aimed at Nordic really, this one),

Having the nrfutil available as nrfutil.exe (Windows executable) would be HUGELY helpful.

It's a real nuisance for us as developers to have to download git, download Python, clone the nrfutil repository, build the code and then finally be able to run it, just to do something simple like make a release package.

This is also a real pain when we have to pass it on to our customers.

Please can I put in a request for a simple nrfutil.exe executable to be available from the Nordic downloads site as this would make life SO much easier.

ps Please no answers about "You can create a compiled executable from the Python distribution" etc - I am aware of this but we should not need to do this at all, never mind each time an update comes out. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree with your points, and have already reported this as a feature request internally. I would suggest to install it directly via PyPi in the meantime (requires python with pip installed):

> pip install nrfutil

Many thanks, that's an amazingly quick response! I've meanwhile installed it locally just to get it working (and it works fine) but your compiled executable is a huge help for us.

People use, Windows with multiple versions xp,8,10 etc, Mac OX and Linux, why not make nrfutil a web based app. Customer could login, upload their files, edit the config and generate the packages. When developing we often have to deal with multiple operating systems, development platforms, programming languages etc. Anything that removes obstacles and makes the customers life simpler is a big advantage.

Where do I use that command line command to install pip? I've tried it from C: but it doesn't recognize that command?

pip should be included in newer versions of python 2, but you may have to add C:\Python27\Scripts to your env. path first. Note that nrfutil executable for windows are now included in the releases: github.com/.../releases
