OTA Firmware update on Windows

Hi,

Is there a way to do OTA secure firmware updates with a Windows application?

I've got some users without Android or iOS phones that want to do updates - and they're on Windows so Web Bluetooth isn't an option yet.

It seemed that the nRF devtools firmware updater required a pre-programmed nRF51x dongle to work, rather than using the Windows 8.1 APIs - or am I wrong about that?

Hi Gordon,

We do not have any example application or example code using the Windows 8.1 API to perform Secure DFU. You can perform Secure DFU with our pc-nrfutil tool, found here. The pc-nrfutil tool uses our SoftDevice serialization API and requires Nordic hardware (nRF5x Dk or Dongle) flashed with our connectivity firmware.

Ok - thanks! Personally, I think a native Windows example app (or Python using a non-nordic BLE API) would be really helpful. While pc-nrfutil looks handy, I can't ask a user of my hardware to go out and buy an nRF dongle just to update the firmware.

Has anyone gotten this to work? I'm also targeting the task of implementing DFU OTA from PC desktop app. Would be much appreciated if anyone has a working code project for this.
