why does nrf52832 ble peripheral device reset after advertising timeout?

after the advertising timeout occurs the board goes into sleep mode and then immediately runs from the top of the main function. I know that a pin state change can wake up the device. Is there any other way that the device can wake up that I should be looking for?

I have the board set up to turn an LED on when it starts up and then turn the LED off 15 seconds later. The app advertising timeout is then set to occur after 30 seconds at which point the LED turns on and the whole application restarts. It does this whether the board is in debug or not.

I figured out that some of the pins I am using overlap with the default pin set up for the development kit. That was causing the device to reset after entering sleep mode. Thanks for the help.
