Must pins (5=rts, 6=tx, 7=cts, 8=rx) be used for hwfc?

I have a micro connected to the PCA10040. I can use flow control with 5=rts, 6=tx, 7=cts, 8=rx. Are these pins necessary or advisable for hwfc?

thanks,

Richard

  • You can use most any gpio for the UART connections. I should point out that you have some mixed terminology going on in your question. The tx and rx lines are data and have nothing to do with flow control. cts and rts are the flow control.

Per the product spec, "The GPIOs used for each UART interface can be chosen from any GPIO on the device and are independently configurable. This enables great flexibility in device pinout and efficient use of board space and signal routing."
