[nRF51822] It is difficult to pair nRFready keyboard with 2.4G dongle.

Keyboard source: Desktop 2 v1.0.5 Dongle source: 1. Desktop 2 v1.0.5 dongle hex; 2. Desktop 1.2.2.293 dongle hex

I found it is very defficult to pair the keyboard with 2.4G dongle. Press pairing button thousand times. Also, Try power off and then on thousand times. Then, FINALLY it can work on Desktop 2 v1.0.5 dongle. But, never succeed on Desktop 1.2.2.293 dongle. Instead, it's very easy to connect this keyboard to BTLE. Did you realize this problem? Thanks.

  • Hi Jeffery,

Are you holding the keyboard close to the dongle when pairing? It uses close-proximity pairing (20 - 30 cm).

If you use the firmware provided by nRFready Desktop v1.2.2.293, then you will have to use the windows application "nRFreadySimplePairing" located in: ..\Nordic Semiconductor\nRFReady Desktop 1.2.2.293\applications

  • Hi

    1. Pair Desktop 2 v1.0.5 keyboard with Desktop 2 v1.0.5 dongle => After just programming hex to dongle by nRFgo, it is easy to pair them. However, I found it is very difficult to pair them after I unplug and plud the dongle to USB port. For this dongle
version, can it use the nRFreadySimplePairing?

    2. Pair Desktop 2 v1.0.5 keyboard with Desktop 1.2.2.293 dongle => I have no idea how to use nRFreadySimplePairing. What I did was as below. It still didn't work.

    3. Open the nRFreadySimplePairing

    4. Connect USB dongle

    5. Power on keyboard or press pairing button.

    6. Press any key on Desktop 2 v1.0.5 keyboard

    7. Writing something to the blank area of nRFreadySimplePairing by Desktop 2 v1.0.5 keyboard. It can work...

    8. After that, it shows "wait user approval" and then halted.

    Anything is incorrect? Thanks.

  • Now, I can pair the keyboard with Desk 1.2.2.293 dongle by the simple pairing app. However, I found it is difficult to connect the keyboard to dongle if I tried to unplug and plug if on USB port. Desktop 2 v1.0.5 and 1.2.2.293, both, have this problem. Did you find this problem? Thanks.

  • Hi Jeffery,

I have not seen any issues when plugging the USB dongle into another PC. What I have seen is that it may take up to 1 minute to get communication going, as windows will do a full USB enumeration (including check windows update for specific drivers) if this device has never been connected to that PC or that specific USB port.

What kind of a problem do you see? Do you have to pair up again, or is it similar to my observations?

    Best regards Håkon
