Can I use the nRF51 DK as a programmer/debugger for the Beacon kit?

Hi

In a bit of an over-enthousiastic mood, I bought 3 pieces of the nrf51822 beacon kit, and the, as this did not gave me download access to the NRF51 SDK, bought a nRF51 DK. Now, in order to avoid more costs for buying e.g. a Segger Jlink debugger, I was wondering: as on the DK, the Segger JLink seems to be embedded, can I use the DK as a debugger interface for the beacon kit? And if not, which hardware do I need to enable me debugging on the Beacon kit hardware?

Yes, you can do it with the DK. There are also cheaper alternative to the jlink coming out, the IDAP-Link in the range of $40. Have a look at this blog site. http://embeddedsoftdev.blogspot.ca/p/ehal-nrf51.html. Official module with product key access to SDK is also avail there.

Good that you found it out. I'll just repeat what was written in the other post so others easily can see it:

If you do not have a programmer, then a very good choice would be to buy the same adapter cable and the nRF51 DK which has an onboard programmer/debugger and a "debug out" port (see nRF51-DK - User Guide v1_0 section 5.10). If you connect the adapter cable between the "debug out" port and the Beacon kit, then you are able to program/debug the beacon kit. In addition you have full scale development platform (the nRF51 DK) with the latest third revision nRF51 hardware (Beacon kit has the second revision nRF51 hardware).
