Best power setup

Hello,

In my application, I'm going to power the custom board with a fixed 5V connection. What is the best practice for powering the nRF51422 IC? I was thinking in using a DC-DC regulator from 5V to 2.2V, so when I plug the programming header the board will still work (regulating from 3V input of the header, powering the chip to 2.2V). Is that the best solution?

The scenario you describe should work, but keep in mind that the nRF51422 can only handle pin voltages up to VDD + 0.3 V. So if you are powering the chip at 2.2 V, you must make sure that the programming interface isn't higher than 2.5 V.
