Compatibility Matrix

Hello,

as described in the Compatibility Matrix it is necessary to use a revison 3 chip to use the S130 SoftDevice? Right?

image description image description

Please explain why the Revision 2 chips doesn´t support the S130. In my oppinion the RAM can´t be the reason because revision 3 chops are manufactured with 16kb or 32kb. What advantages will 32kb RAM bring to my application?

This is very importanten to us because it is much easier to buy modules with the revision 2 chips.

  • Hi SKo,

We are not guarantee that the S130 would work properly on rev2 chip. There are quite a lot improvement inside the chip from rev 2 to rev 3 besides 32kB RAM variant (there are 16kB RAM variants for chip revision 3 also). Some of them are PAN fixes, especially concurrent CPU with radio.

You can do some development with rev2 chip but we highly recommend you to find modules with rev3 chip on it if you want to use with S130. Please be aware that rev2 will be discontinued in not too far future. So if you plan to go for mass production, you may consider to start development on rev3.

I understand the issue with the module, but I'm sorry that we don't have much else to help for that. There will be more modules with rev3, that's for sure.

  • Thank you! I found a module with rev3 chip (Insight SiP, Laird announced another for fall 2015) so I will get a module.
