NRF51822 thermal parameters demand

Hello Sir or Madam

Now i am using NRF51822 of your company. Now we are evaltion thermal character of this component. So please kindly provide theta JC (junction to case) , theta JA (junction to ambient) ,PD(Power dissipation),Tjmax(Max. junciton temperature) to me. Or i will not choose the component trustingly.

Best regards Bonnie

  • Hi Bonnie

Unfortunately, we do not have any official measurement results for these parameters that you mention.

Needless to say, our nRF51 chips are among the most energy efficient electronics on the market today. Energy efficiency means very low heat generation. Basically, the peak current is around 20mA with maximum input voltage of 3.6V, which is <100mW. That is peak current, the average current is normally much lower.

The chip has internal temperature meter which measures the temperature inside the chip. I have measured the temperature difference of a cold starting chip and after running on close to full activtity for a long time, using around 50mW, then I measured 2 deg C temperature difference inside the chip. That was on a nRF51822 development kit. For normal low power applications, the average current is under 1mA, the temperature rise should be hardly measurable.
