S110 as scanner?

Hello,

I have some questions regarding S110:

1. Is it possible for the S110 softdevice to scan for broadcasts?

2. Is it possible to create a connectable broadcast? I only need to send 2 bytes of data, so can i put 2 bytes of data in an advertisement message?

Hi Pascal,

1. S110 is the peripheral stack, therefore it won't support scanning mode. You can use S120 instead, it's the central stack and can scan for advertising packets. Besides, if you want to have a tool to look for all broadcasting packet, tracking traffic on a connection, you can use our sniffer firmware, which can be downloaded from nRF51822 web page (Download tab, Software section).

2. Could you explain more specific on "connectable broadcast". Do you want to establish connection or you just want to send data by advertising. You can have maximum 31 bytes of advertising data payload.

Thanks for your repsonse Hung Bui, with connectable broadcast i actually mean send data(only 2 bytes payload: changing each advertising interval) master can see this data and consider to create a connection with this device. For my application: In the broadcast i want to send the sensors current time(timestamp). Master checks his current time with the advertiser and wants to correct the sensors timing with a calculated Δt offset(this happens when connection is established).

@Pascal: It's pretty simple to change the advertising data dynamically. You just have to set-up the updated data and call ble_advdata_set() to update to the stack (as in advertising_init()).

Note that you will have to chose a type of data in the advertising packet. I recommend to use Manufacture data to advertise your own data. Please have a look at the power profiling example.

Thanks, i will take a look in this. i've already got a broadcaster working with the nrfTemp example. I thought this uses adv_service data. Is the difference with manufacturer data you can use 20ms adv interval, but with adv_service data minimum 100ms?

Thanks, i have managed connectable advertisement with changing manufacturer data :)
