Starting new project - nRF52-DK or Preview Kit?

Hi!

As a student, I am starting a new project on university. Project is based on beacons idea, so I decided to use Nordic's chip as an MCU.

I am trying to decide, which DK is best for me? As far as I know, nRF52-DK is not yet on the market, and I am able to buy only the Preview Kit, right? In such case, can someone explain me, what is the difference between DK and Preview DK? Is it worth waiting for DK or should I buy Preview DK?

Thanks!

  • The preview DK is the PCA_10036 board. This DK has the beta nRF52832. This beta had an error with its RAM memory map leading to the differences. PCA_10040 board is the 'production' nRF52832. This has the correct memory map for RAM 0x20000000-0x20010000. (PCA_10036 RAM is 0x20000000-0x20008000) (it just has 32kb not 64kb ram)

You are doing a beacon so the preview dk will work for you no problem. there are some fixes between the two but most signiifcant is what i mentioned above. you shouldnt see any differences really. If possible nRF52-DK would be best but preview dk isnt a bad option

That is something you would need to ask the distributer. The PCA_10040 is available now but distributers may have PCA_10036 stil in stock - not sure..

  • For clarification, the new SDK is unsuitable for the 036 board?
