Peer manager changes in SDK12

Yesterday I downloaded the new SDK12 and checked what changes could be relevant for my ongoing/next projects.

One remarkable thing was the fact that almost any peer manager file has changed a lot since the SDK11. Some of them look as they were rewritten. I've checked that release notes, but no note about peer manager changes.

What are the changes in the peer manager for SDK12? Is the "new" peer manager compatible to the old one in terms of API and data structure? Is it recommended to switch to the SDK12 peer manager for recently started files?

The API for Peer Manager did not change, so the functionality should be fully compatible with SDK11.

I noticed that the API is the same, but was not sure if the storage structure is still compatible. Would you recommend to update to the peer manger from the SDK12? Why are there so many changes in the implementation?

I see most of them are code improvements and better error handling, the storage structure should remain the same.
