Antenna's for NRF52 PCB?

Hi,

I am trying to develop a PCB for the NRF52 that will use bluetooth capability. However, I was wondering if there were smaller antenna's that could be used rather than the one on the development kit since it will be too big. Also, I'm not sure I understand the difference between chip antenna's and PCB antennas and would appreciate some clarification in terms of their functionality.

There are basically three antennas you can use: PCB antenna (Quarter wave monopole antenna), meander antenna and chip antenna. The difference between them is described in this post. The meander antenna will have slightly better gain than a chip antenna.

If you want to use a meander antenna, you can copy the one used on the nRF51 dongle. The hardware design files for the dongle can be found here.
