nRF52 PCB antenna design

Hi , This is the first time I am using nRF52 and I don't have any experience about Antenna design. Here is my question: I am using nRF52 CIAA variant and planing to use PCB antenna. when I see the PCB layout reference design I see there is 3mm x 0.76mm Antenna on PCB(Here is the link infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp. is it enough to get the Bluetooth functionality ? or do I have to follow the quarter wave mono pole antenna design which is ~25mm long for nRF52 also?

I am not too worried about the blue tooth long distance functionality( as long as it works for few feet long distance its good). Any suggestions and comments will be great help.

The reference layout shows the required components for matching the chip to 50 Ohm, creating a 50 Ohm reference point. In addition to the reference layout, an antenna is needed.

If you want to use a PCB antenna, I would either recommend the ~25 mm monopole antenna or the meander antenna on our nRF51-Dongle (smaller, but shorter range). It can also be useful to take a look at the "General PCB design guidelines for nRF52" tutorial.

From 3mm x 0.76mm Antenna on Reference PCB do we get any Bluetooth signal at least for small ranges? or its must to have any one of recommended antenna from the above list. (for 3mm x 0.76mm PCB Antenna please see the reference PCB layout

There will be some signals from the chip without an antenna, the range will be short, but how short is hard to know before testing it. If there is very little space on your boards, I would recommend you to use a chip antenna.
