nrf connect for mobile

I am trying to use the scanner to view the RSSI for a beacon; because there are so many devices present its hard to make sense of the graph, consequently, I am attempting to apply a filter but when i do, all devices disappear. The following are screen shots of my screen shots before and after applying the filter: What am I doing wrong?

  • Hi.

Does all the devices disappear regardless of which filter you apply?

Also, which device, os and application version are you using?

    Thanks,
    Joakim

  • Hi Joakim,

I have tried it both on a iPhone 14+ and an iPad; running Ios 16.5 and iPadOs 16.5, respectively. The scanner app is version 2.2.6.

When I look at the scanner output, I see beacons and other devices. One of the other devices is named Lesson2Exercise2, from your BLE Tutorial. When I enter “Lesson2Exercise2” as a filter name, things work as one would expect. The beacons, on the other hand, are a bit strange; They all seem to be named serially in the form of “Beacon (01)”, “Beacon (02)”, and so on.  This makes me suspect the beacons’ names are being manufactured by the scanner software and not by the device itself.  After all, what are the chances of two different manufacturers naming their devices in this manner?

I think I have a lesson coming up on beacons, maybe that will shed some light on this issue.

I am trying to use the scanner to hunt down and identify these beacons because I have no idea what they are doing in my environment and am very surprised to have discovered them; any help you might offer in that regard would be most appreciated.

    Regards,

    Jerry

  • I apologise for not answering one of your questions directly: Only when I enter the name of a beacon do all devices disappear; when I correctly enter the name of a non beacon, the app works as would be expected.

  • Thank you for the additional information.

I haven't had a chance to reproduce, but I'll forward this to our iOS developers. They might be able to shed some light on the issue.

    Br,
    Joakim
