What is Flash Memory used for on nrf7002dk

I am designing a custom PCB using the nrf5340 and nrf7002. If I do not need to store any data between power-ons of my PCB, do I need to have the flash memory chip on my PCB?

I noticed that the nrf7002dk has a flash memory chip, but I am unsure what it is used for or if it's needed.

This external flash memory is not required in a design. It is just an external flash chip there for development purposes for customers that want to experiment with having data on an external flash as well.
