What parts of the nRF_CONNECT_SDK are proprietary?

Hello,

I was just watching a video about Zephyr and the nRF_CONNECT_SDK and was perplexed to hear that some parts of the SDK are proprietary.

This raises the question of what parts of the SDK are proprietary? 

Are any proprietary parts included in the flash image?

Now I’m worried that I cannot distribute my applications without licenses and fees.

Can someone elucidate me about this issue?

Hello Jerry,

There are indeed proprietary components in our nRF Connect SDK - like the SoftDevice Controller, for instance - but fortunately our licenses are very permissive(to the point where it is not an issue at all) so long as you are using it with Nordic products.
