nRF51422 with external PA?

It would be very convenient to increase the output power of nRF51422/822/922 with at least 3-6 dB in order to get enough range. I'm currently not using nRF51422 for ANT, only using its ISM mode. Do you have any recommendations?

What is the best range you have ever achieved with nRF51422 using +4 dBm output power, 250 kbps data rate and omnidirectional antennas? So far I'm not that happy with the RF performance, but that could also be me doing a non-ideal layout. The SWR I get is around 1.2:1, so it should be ok though.

  • 100-300m seems very optimistic. The best result I have managed to get indoors is 15-20m line of sight. I was hoping for at least 30-40m. I have used different kinds of antennas and, as noted earlier, the SWR haven't been that bad. In some cases adding a better antenna made reception worse, but gave increased transmission range. Guess that indicates problems with intermodulation products in the receiver?
