3D STP or STEP file for nRF5340 & nRF7002

Hi Nordic,

Can you please provide STEP files for the nRF5340 and nRF7002?

I see there is an application note for the QFN73, referenced as nAN40.  Do you have one for the QFN94 (the nRF5340 package) or the QFN48 (the nRF7002 package)?

On a side note: Mechanical STEP files and solder pad application notes are crucial to anyone designing an eCAD footprint or sizing something on a mCAD program. The hardware layout files are great for observation, but lack dimensions.  Its also great you have an example in Altium, but if purchasing a license to that program is the only way to reference step files or solder pad recommendations, then many of us are restricted.

Thanks in advance for looking into this.

Kind regards,

Chris

  • Hi Chris

I have asked internally if we have STEP files for these packages available for mCAD/eCAD, unfortunately we don't have these packages available at our pages, as we do indeed only have the Altium files. We don't have application notes specifically for the QFN94 or 48 packages but we have this app note for QFN packages in general:https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/pdf/nan_400-08.pdf?cp=17_12

    Best regards,

    Simon

  • Hi Simon,

Thank you for responding and asking internally for the STEP files.

Is there any reason not to provide STEP files for Nordic IC's on your download pages, which seems to be common practice with large vendors?

I did review nAN400-08, but it doesn't provide any help with sizing the soldering pads on eCAD.  I eventually opened up the hardware layout files provided on your download page in a gerber viewer and measured each pad to get the dimensions required.  I do appreciate that these files are provided, however it would be a lot more helpful if these dimensions were documented as was done with the QFN73 package in nAN40.

    Kind regards,

    Chris
