vs code: NCS invalid installation 1.9.1

Hi, 

I Have installed NRF command line tools from here and nrf connect for desktop from here, I'm using win-10 64 bit, all the installation is complete but when i open vs code in the welcome page i keep getting the NCS INVALID INSTALLATION error

The ncs folder contains these sub folders and i'm trying to select v1.9.1 as the sdk

also 1.9.1 is the latest version available in the tool chain manager

Hi,

It looks like you're using an old version of the toolchain manager. Could you update nRF Connect for Desktop and all the applications within nRF Connect for Desktop, then reinstall the SDK? You should be able see versions up to V2.4.1 of NCS in the Toolchain Manager

Hi,

i am using the recent NRF connect for desktop but the version of toolchain manager is V1.2.5 and sdk is 1.9.1, i uninstalled and installed it multiple times but unable to find higher version

The versions v4.2.1 of nRF Connect Desktop and v1.2.5 of the toolchain manager are the newest versions and the installation path looks correct. 

A few more suggestions: 

1. Could you go through https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/installation/assistant.html and see if there are any missing steps according to that guide?
2. Is VSCode up to date?
   1. Which version of the VS Code Extension are you running?
3. Have you installed NCS manually priorly? If so, there might be something in PATH that causes conflicts

Yes, I have followed all the steps in the guide, and this is the 1st time installing NRF, I haven't installed it manually before.

The version of VS code extension is v2023.6.6

would like to mention that I have installed the extension manually as the install missing extensions was not working, but I have made sure all the extensions are installed, does that cause any problem

2023.7.129, is the newest version of the extension which I'm using. I don't think the issue lies here. Below is my VS Code version, does this correspond to your version?

I suspect that the problem lies here, and that the toolchain manager does not know the paths it should know. You might have to add something to PATH to set it up properly if you've installed some things manually and some things automatically

Could you open VS Code and the command palate and generate support information and post the output in a code box here?

1. Open VS Code
2. Ctrl + Shift + p
3. Enter "generate support information"
