Thingy:91 debugging nRF9160 with nRF7002-DK debug port

Hi,

We are having issues using the debug out port on the nRF7002 DK in order to connect to Thingy:91 debug in port.

We are quite sure that we followed the correct procedure. What we have done is:

- soldered the solder bridge (SB47) on nRF7002 DK to allow the development kit to power an external board;

- we moved the SW1 on thinghy:91 to OFF position to allow the powering using the debug input port

- moved the switch (SW2) on the Thinghy:91 in the nRF9160 position 

Using this settings the chip isn't accessible.

We tried the other configuration (moving the SW 2 to nRF52840) and it works fine. This makes us quite sure that the HW is properly working.

Can you please provide us an explanation on how to solve this issue if it is possible?

Have you tried to connect to the nRF9160, while powering the Thingy:91 through its USB port instead of through the debug port? You find a guide on how to do it here.

Or is there a specific reason for why you want to power it through its debug port?

thanks for the answer.

The reason why I want to power nRF9160 through Debug port is because I would like to debug the firmware using the debugger available on nRF7002 DK.

That's because I want to flash the firmware using Visual Studio Code.

Can you please help me on this? Thanks.

I understand, Luigi.

I just tested it out myself and was able to flash the nRF9160 of the Thingy:91. Both with the GUI in VS Code and from the command line, using the nRF7002DK as debugger and powering the Thingy:91 through the USB port, by following this.

Before doing this, the Thingy:91 was set up as described in the previous reply.
