raspberry pi debug probe (CMSIS-DAP) support in nrfutil

Hello,

Segger JLinks are expensive and there are much cheaper open source alternatives, such as the rapsberry pi debug probe. It would be awesome if generic CMSIS-DAP debuggers would be supported in the nrfutil tool.

I was hopeful when I noticed that my RPi debug probe is picked up by nrfutil:

But trying to flash a firmware using the debugger results in an error:

Is this expected? Can I somehow add/create a plugin for this debugger?

I tried flashing an nRF52840 chipset using SWD.

I am guessing that the team never tested rasberry pi debug probe with nrfUtil on MacOS. But I can ask the team if there is any way we can make it work or if this is unsupported. Be back to you when I get more clear info from the team.

It is mentioned here that J-Link is assumed debugger for nRFUtil

So we have not tested it with others unfortunately.

That said there seems to be users who used picoprobe normally with openocd commands.

Alright, as I feared then. openocd works just fine, and I assume pyOCD will also work. It would just be neat to have one tool to do it all. Any chance you'll allow the community work on the current nrfutil? I know that the previous, now deprecated, python-based nrfutil was open source.

We now have expanded our Tools team and they have decided to maintain the features internaly. The git repo you mentioned is marked as read-only. This will seem a bit backward but they have some good reasons for doing this. Sorry for breaking the bad news.
