VS Code - NRF Connect Extension --> Welcome page not showing

Hello everyone,

i just uninstalled vs code, nrf connect and nrf commandline tools (and deleting all temporary files of vs code in the users appdata folder).

After freshly installing commandlinetools, nrf connect and vs code again (with the vs code extensions automatically installed via tool chain manager), and after restarting everything, in vs code, the welcome screen is not shown.

OS: Win11

Toolchain Manager is Version 1.2.5

nRF Connect for Desktop is v4.2.0

nrf connect sdk v2.4.0

vs code 1.82.2

Would appreciate any hint on how to get back my welcome screen, as opening samples from there is much more comfortable than with what appears after clicking "create a new application" as shown in the following picture:

So far i tried reinstalling all tools, including cleaning the temporary files as said above, restarting the computer several times (clean re-boot, fast boot is deactivated).

I also deinstalled the Jegger and JLink drivers. before reinstalling everything.

I also tried starting vs code in compatibility mode for win7 and win8, but without success.

I had the same setup working perfectly on my previous notebook with win10 some months ago, maybe the new operating system is an issue?

Update, on my previous notebook, now is the same problem.

This is a change in the newest version of the nRF Connect SDK for VS Code extension.

Did you figure out what you wanted to use the welcome menu for in this new update?
(I assume you were looking for some functionality in it)

Yes, I am still missing the welcome menu, as at creating a new application, I liked the "browser" view of the website with information about the searched application.

And when choosing a sample application to start with and folder to store it, I am now required to have a git account (which I think was not required previously), so I am now getting "Author identity unknown" altough VS Code could just copy the sample from ncs folder (as in the previous NRF Connect version) if I am correct?
