nRF52832 RSSI returning 0x7f

I'm using a dev board based on the nRF52832.

The majority of the time the RSSIsample register returns the correct value.

However sometimes the value returned is 0x7F, i would expect this to be quite a rare occurrence due to background noise. I have also managed to see 0x7F while another board is transmitting at 0dBm approximately 10cm away. Both boards are using the same channel.

Once 0x7F has been seen in the RSSISample register, it normally starts occuring quite alot. But it can take 1000's of RSSI readings before you start to see this.

Has anyone else seen anything similar?

0x7f (0b01111111) is the highest value in the register, therefore the lowest RSSI you can measure. Are you sure the radio is enabled in receive mode (RXEN task) and the reception is started (READY event followed by START task) when you are doing the RSSI sample, as specified in the Reference Manual?
