What is the recommended circuit to stop the output in nPM1100/nPM1300?

As the title indicates I would like to know the recommended circuit to stop the output with nPM1100/1300.

Generally, power control by a power switch is disconnected by a switch at the rear of the battery as shown in the attached figure. The DC/DC converter will not work.

However, nPM1100/nPM1300 is a battery charger and DC/DC converter in one, so such a circuit cannot be realized.

Of course, the battery cannot be disconnected. That would make it impossible to charge the battery.

Then, the only way is to put a switch in the rear of the DC/DC converter, but that would keep the DC/DC converter running.

Please let me know if there is a way to solve this issue.

    Could you tell me why you wish to achieve this? Do you wish to reduce the current? 

    Yes.

    If the DC/DC converter is running, does that mean that the switching is always running? Or does it automatically stop if it is disconnected by a physical switch?

    Please take a look at the BUCK regulator section in the Product specification. It should be possible to disable the supply when the battery is charging. Hope this is what you are looking for. You can also refer to the GPIO control.

    The Thingy:53 uses an nPM1100 as its charger and is a reference design for this, here the switch is placed on the outputs of the nPM1100.

    The power consumption of the PMIC in this state is 800 nanoA, according to the PS. Or to give an example, at this rate it would take about 520 days for the PMIC to reduce your battery's charge by 10 mAh.

  • Entering ship mode would disable any ongoing charging, connecting to a USB power source to charge would force the PMIC to exit ship mode and not reenter it when the power source is disconnected.
