2.4G private protocol in nrf5340 for transmit audio.

Hi, we have a customer want use nrf5340 transmit audio, they required the transmit delay is less than 1ms, it seems the delay for LE Audio is about 10-20ms. So customer plan to use 2.4G private protocol, they want to keep 800kbit/s stable transmit within 30 meters. It’s possible? If yes, do we have some examples or similar code to give customer for test or debug?

  • Hello,

As  mentions this kind of latency will not be possible within the LE Audio specification.

Could you perhaps elaborate on what kind of product that you will be developing and its requirements/constraints, to aid my understanding of your intentions, so that I may best advice you on whether it would be feasible using LE Audio, and/or how best to proceed?

    Best regards,
    Karl

  • Customer want to develop a product similar to the wireless microphone. it does not need use mobile phone. just need transmit audio signal fast and timely to their audio equipment. This is the reason why they don’t want use LE audio but consider for 2.4G private protocol.

Is the latency a hard requirement for the application?
If so, the lowest frame size that ISO channels supports are 5 ms, and then you would need to add time for encoding/decoding, playback, and presentation delay(if any) as well, so I do not think the application with less than 1 ms latency for the audio would be feasible for LE Audio, unfortunately.

Do you have a specific 2.4 GHz proprietary protocol in mind, or are you asking whether we have anything that might fit this bill? If so, I would need additional information about the requirements to the audio quality and which compression you intend to use to see if there's anything I could recommend.
