Device stopped working (Error: Device not detected)

Hi,

I have 2 nrf52840-preview dk board. All of a sudden both the devices are not working any more.

I have referred to some suggestions and tried all the below cases and still no use.

  1. Hold IF BOOT/RESET and unplug/plug, the device should be detected as BOOTLOADER, in my case it is still showing "USB Device not recognized".
  2. I have checked the Voltage and I see 2.9v at VDD.
  3. Try to reset from J-LINK commander, not able connect to the board.

I also observe below issue.

  1. Power on the device, LED5 blink rapidly.
  2. Hold IF BOOT/RESET, unplug and plug, the LED5 blink slowly (may at interval of ~1 sec).

Please help me to retrieve the device to normal.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello,

    I have 2 nrf52840-preview dk board.

If you have old PDK's of the nRF52840 (prior to v1.0.0) these are no longer supported. The problem you refer to typically indicate problem with the USB connections (e.g. using a USB cable meant for charging).

  • If you have old PDK's of the nRF52840 (prior to v1.0.0) these are no longer supported.

--> I have one with v0.9.1(preview DK) and the other v1.1.0 (nRF52840DK, not preview). So, does this means the one with v0.9.1 does not work anymore?

The problem you refer to typically indicate problem with the USB connections (e.g. using a USB cable meant for charging).

--> I tried changing USB cable (3-4) and the same result.

The major improvement is with v1.1.0 is below:

    • I was able to connect with the PC and reset, I get BOOTLOADER connected and after I upload the J-Link bin I get J-Link connected.
    • The issue is I see J-Link in NRF-Connect App and not the board info(nRF52840DK).

Can you please help me with this as we are working on some project and they are using the 52840 variants, so these boards are really need for us. It would be great if 1 works for us.

    Thank you, appreciate your support.

  • Thanks that worked.

It did not work at first, I repeatedly tried to upload J-Link bin to BOOTLOADER and reset using nrfjprog.

At second time it worked. It is now showing nRF52840DK.

    Thank you once again.

  • 一开始它不起作用,我反复尝试将 J-Link bin 上传到 BOOTLOADER 并使用 nrfjprog 重置

Hi, I have the same question as you, I would like to ask what is the exact step ticket for this and what is the J-Link bin? I can't execute the g command directly now because it says ERROR: No debuggers were discovered. How can I mourn?

J-Link bin is FW bin file which runs in J-Link controller.

I have attached the J-Link bin, I do not remember from where I downloaded the bin file.

    j-link-fw.bin

You can try to flash the above file to you NRF-EVK.

  • Thank you for the file and reply. I plugged in RF52840DK but it didn't respond and LED5 didn't flash. It flashed only when I detected it as BOOTLOADE according to your method. When I tried to flash J-Link bin file to my development board, it showed ERROR: Cannot connect to J-Link. (I didn't know what NRF-EVT was, so I just connected the development board directly to burn it by default.)what should I do?

  • it showed ERROR: Cannot connect to J-Link.

--> From the above error I think, J-Link in your NRF-EVK is not being detected by your PC.

I suggest raising a new ticket with the above error as I do not have any knowledge on this.

    Sorry for that.

I surely reply here if I get any reference to the above-mentioned issue.
