Custom board with MDBT50Q-1MV2

I'm looking to create a custom board with MDBT50Q-1MV2. Can I directly power it from a LiPo battery (3.7V - 200mAh) only to the VDDH pin? My board is very compact, so I want to simplify as much as possible. Can you guys give me some advise ?

  • In theory, it should work. However, it isn't an optimal solution.

The LiPo battery will have a varying voltage as it depletes. I assume it will have a voltage of approx. 4.2V when fully charged to approx. 2.8V when fully discharged. Regarding VDDH on the nRF52840, the Recommended operating conditions state that it has a min. voltage of 2.5V and a max. voltage of 5.5V. Hence, the entire span of 2.8V - 4.2V will be within the spec for VDDH.

Remember that there may be variations from battery to battery, so it is recommended to do sufficient testing to confirm that it works as expected when close to especially the lower limitation. The voltage of the battery may drop additionally under higher current loads.
