nPM1300 current and voltage measurements capabilities

Hello Nordic team,

I would like to learn more about the capabilities of the nPM1300 in terms of current and voltage measurement. Specifically, I have a few inquiries:

  • Could you please provide information regarding the minimum battery current that the nPM1300 can measure through the VBAT pin, along with details on the accuracy of this measurement?

  • Is it feasible to schedule current measurements with the nPM1300? Additionally, can measurement data be retrieved upon request?

  • Is it possible to measure current through other pins, such as the outputs of the Buck regulators or LDO regulators. If so, I'd appreciate insights into the accuracy of such measurements.

  • Can the output voltage of the Buck regulators and LDO regulators be measured using the nPM1300?

  • Regarding the last question -
    • I saw in the datasheet the BUCK1VOUTSTATUS / BUCK2VOUTSTATUS registers which let the software read the Vout value in case its driven by the FSM. Please elaborate what is the format and accuracy of this value.
    • I'm interested in understanding the functionality of the LDSWSTATUS (Load Switch Status) register. Does it contain data related to the voltage/current of the LDO outputs? If so, could you please elaborate on this?

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance,

Avihay

  • Hello Avihay,

Just letting you know we have started looking into this.

  • Hi helsing,

Thank you for the update, looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Hi Avihay, sorry for the long delay.

The current voltage output setting can be read, but it is not measured by an ADC.
BUCKVOUTSTATUS holds the voltage setting configured by the VSET pins.Hi Avihay, sorry for the delay.

Measurements can be triggered at any time, but the conversion starts straight away, it can't be scheduled for a future time by the PMIC. Scheduling needs to be handled by the host.

    This is not possible.

The nPM1300 current measurement has been designed to be used for our fuel gauge solution and not to be used for high accuracy current measurements. Ichg range is 32 to 800 mA in 2 mA steps (Ichgstep). We have not specified the accuracy.
