nRF9160 NRF Cloud provisioning issue

I'm trying to provision nRF9160 DK in nRF Cloud using https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/nrf-cloud/page/SecurityServices/ProvisioningService/ProvisioningOverview.html ducumentation and on Requirements section found device support only for nRF9161.

Can you please clarify the following:

1) What is the root cause/reason for not supporting the nRF Cloud services (Provisioning API and Attestation API in the nRF Cloud)?   

2) Do you plan to support this in the future (for nRF9160 DK & Tingy)?   (Note we have 6x nRF 9160 DK and 8x nRF Tingy.  We use these for educational and competitions where RoT and End-2-End Chain of Trust is developed and demoed.)

3) Do you have interim (or permanent) workaround?   For supporting the nRF Cloud APIs for nRF9160. reference "An nRF9161 device v0.10.0 or later. Contact Support to ask about compatibility with the nRF9160"


P.s also tried "Verifying device authenticity" with official guide https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/nrf-cloud/page/SecurityServices/IdentityService/VerifyAttestationToken.html doesnt support yet
showing "Error claiming device: Device is not supported."

    Hi Hambardzum,

    Thank you for your question.  Our device secure identity was piloted with 9160 production, and thus we do not support the nRF9160 at this time.  I'd suggest using nRF 9161 development kits to develop and demo Nordic security services.

    Hi Chris,

    thank you for your quick response, is there a target date for supporting  nRF9160?

    The reason I am asking for is because we just purchased these 14 units (8x 9160 DK and 6x 9160 Tingys) few months ago looking to use nRF's Device Management and Identity/Provisioning services (launched in Sep/2023).  It now seems that we have waited for 9161. 

    Hence we seem to have to either i) wait for support (for Identity/Provisioning services) on 9160 or  ii) buy 14 new 9161 DKs (launched in Jan/2024).

    Can you provide us with the ETA (target month/year)  for supporting  Security/Identity/Provisioning services on nRF9160, please?
    Possibly, can you help us with a discount code in case if we have to order 10-12 new  9161 DKs, please?

    Hi Hambardzum,

    My apologies, but we don't have plans to support our secure identity and provisioning on the 9160 anytime soon.  We are suggesting the 9161 for all new designs in particular those that will use our secure services.
