nRF-Sniffer-for-802.15.4 firmware appears with two COMs and abnormal COM

image1, Flash "nrf802154_sniffer_nrf52840dongle.hex" onto the nrf52840-dongle, only one dongle is inserted but the computer displays two COMs.

If flash the old "nrf802154_sniffer.hex", this problem will not occur, and only one COM will be displayed normally.

When I select the first COM (com33) in Wireshark, an image2 error will be prompted.

If select the second COM (com34), no error. But  need to wait more than 15 seconds to enter the page.

Wireshark version: 4.2.4

I think this is not a problem with Wireshark. The problem is caused by nRF-Sniffer-for-802.15.4, how to deal with it?

  • Hello,

When you program the nRF52840 dongle, it will change COM port, so perhaps the COM33 is not actually present, if it was the COM port that you used to program the sniffer FW. So probably, you should use COM34 in your case. You can open your computer's "device manager" to see what devices that are currently available. I guess you will not see COM33 after the dongle is programmed.

Regarding the ~15 seconds delay, I have seen that as well. I am not sure what it really is, but I guess it is some sort of interview process, or wireshark setting up the dongle with the correct settings or something.

Does it work when those 15 seconds have passed?

    Best regards,

    Edvin

  • I only programmed the nRF52840 dongle on one of the computers. There are also two COM on other computers, including the computer's "device manager"
