Developer board LTE(M), WiFi, BL(E)

Hi,

We are investigating how to solve a project which requires WiFi 2.4/5 (later 6[GHz]), Bluetooth classic / LE, Thread, ZigBee and LTE(M). LTE will be used for communication with for example the Nordic cloud. All other techs are for tracking assets. Is there any development board providing (as much as possible) all techs?

Best regards,

Mart

  • Hi

I think my suggestion would be to buy DK for LTM and one DK for BLE/Thread and then buy the our 7002ek which you can use on both the BLE/thread board and the LTM board.

What is the timeline for your project? We have some new board which is coming out soon. But here you will need to contact sales to get more information.

For LTM I would suggest to get either the 9161DK or the 9160DK. The main difference is the support for DECT NR+ in the nRF9161.

For BLE/Thread I think I would suggest starting with maybe a 5340DK due to extra flash(if not I would go for a 52840). However if your timeline allows it(Again need to contact sales) the nRF54L15 might be an interesting device. You can find a comparison of the 52 and 53 series here

For wifi you can either go for the 7002dk. The 7000 series is a companion IC  which is designed to be used alongside Nordic’s existing nRF52Registered and nRF53Registered Series Bluetooth Systems-on-Chip (SoCs), and nRF91Registered Series cellular IoT Systems-in-Package (SiPs). The DK consist of a nRF7002 and a nRF5340. We also have the 7002ek which enables you to add wifi to a BLE DK or a LTM DK.

So overall you have a few different ways you can go about it.

  • Hi Runar,

Thanks for your explanation and comments. As I am in an early phase of the development process, there is time to investigate / wait for the most suitable product.

Regarding to the products you mentioned, can I find any best practices from Nordic how to combine the different chipsets (API, electronically/UART, .... ).

    Best regards,

    Mart

  • Hi Mart

In general I think the best starting point would be to look at our reference designs and guidelines found here:

    nRF9161

    nRF7002

    nRF5340

If you have not used our SDK before I would also highly recommend having a look at DevAcademy . There we have a introduction and intermediate  course to NCS(our sdk), A BLE course, WIFI course and Cellular course showing how to use our devices

  • Hi Runar,

    Thanks!

I will do so and hope the information about your new product will be released soon.

    Best regards,

    Mart

  • Hi

You can read about the 9151 here and the 54L15 here. Sales are also able to give you a timeline for the devices
