What are the necessary files to load Build configuration for a board

Hello Team,

We would like to keep the necessary build configuration for a board in Bitbucket,which are necessary to show up the "Build" folder in VS code.So that every developer does not need to select board and build the code evreytime.  The  temporary build files(Like hex) should not be part of the bitbucket. Which files should be modified/addeed to do that ?

You can save the build configuration as a preset as outlined in the documentation here: https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/nrf-connect-vscode/page/guides/build_config.html#how-to-save-a-build-configuration-as-a-preset. You can include version control on the preset file.

Thanks for the reply.

When I create the Preset, NCS_TOOL_CHAIN version is chosen as "NONE" is it normal ?
Is it possible to set SDK and Toolchain version in this file ?

Hi Adarsh,

The toolchain version is set to NONE to allow the toolchain version to be selected from the VS code extension: https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/nrf-connect-vscode/page/guides/extension_settings.html#nrf-connect-toolchain-path-resolution 

I tried experimenting with setting other toolchain versions in the preset, but it does not look like it is possible to override the selection when building via the extension.

1. How did you try to override the Toolchain version ?
For eg. 

"NCS_TOOLCHAIN_VERSION": "v2.60",

Or like path to Toolchain ?

2. Is it possible to set the SDK version here ?

3. What happens a Toolchain and SDK version is set in Preset file,but the user doest not have the correspoding Toolchain and SDK installed ? I would expect an error message/warning.

Hi Adarsh,

I set the symbol to "v2.6.0" in the preset configuration, but saw from build command in the terminal that it was still being set to NONE by the extension:

west build --pristine --board nrf52840dk_nrf52840 --no-sysbuild -- -DNCS_TOOLCHAIN_VERSION=NONE

The preset is only to configure the build command to be invoked by the build action. If you want the project to require a specific SDK version, you can use this workflow: https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/dev_model_and_contributions/adding_code.html#workflow-4-workspace-application-repository-recommended

There should be a build error if you don't have a toolchain installed that meets the version requirement set by this file: https://github.com/nrfconnect/sdk-nrf/blob/main/scripts/ncs-toolchain-version-minimum.txt
