nRF51-Dongle as stand alone

Hi, Is it possible to program the nRF51-Dongle through the usb, to correspond to Bluetooth content to change GPIO state. Then connect the dongle to an external power source instead and use it as a stand alone device? I am actually talking about using it as an evaluation kit.

Hi,

Yes, this is possible!

Simply solder a 3v3 source between the GND and 3v3 pins and you are good to go. Additionally it is possible to program it either through the USB interface, or using a different nRF5 kit and the 10pin connector, the process is explained in this blogpost(however the beacon uses a 6pin connector, it is the same idea).

Or you could apply 5V via the USB connector.

Right you are! Actually you can connect any 3.6-5.5V source to the regulator through the pin labeled 3.6V-5.5V, and its corresponding ground pad.
