Strange Transmission Gaps in NCS BLE Throughput Sample

I'm experimenting with the Bluetooth Throughput sample in NCS v2.6.1. As I increase the distances between devices, I see strange gaps in the transmission from the Central. It appears to just stop transmitting at seemingly random times. Can you help explain why the Central stops trying to transmit like this? Since the supervision timeout is set to 10 sec, I'd expect it to keep trying to transmit. But maybe I'm misunderstand the purpose/use of this timeout. Sometimes my sniffer reports, "no response from slave" before the Central stops transmitting for a while, but sometimes it does not.

Please refer to the attached screenshot.

Thanks,
Chris
