The timer is not working in ble_app_uart.

Hi ,

I am using nRF52810 to start a project that combines BLE app UART and a timer. I found an example BLE app UART project from the directory nRF5_SDK_17.0.2_d674dde\examples\ble_peripheral\ble_app_uart\pca10040e\s112\ses\ble_app_uart_pca10040e_s112. That example project was built in Segger Embedded Studio without any errors. After that, I needed to add a timer part, so I found another working timer example project in the directory nRF5_SDK_17.0.2_d674dde\examples\peripheral\timer\pca10040\blank\ses\timer_pca10040 and copied the contents of the timer example project into the ble_app_uart project.

I made some modifications in the sdk_config.h file with the following changes: TIMER_ENABLED 1, TIMER1_ENABLED 1, APP_TIMER_ENABLED 1, NRFX_TIMER_ENABLED 1. I used the timer instance const nrf_drv_timer_t TIMER_LED = NRF_DRV_TIMER_INSTANCE(1); (timer instance 1).

However, I am facing an issue where the added timer part is not working. In the timer example project, the timer interrupt is supposed to trigger and indicate an LED based on a set time in milliseconds. I have set it to 1000 ms. Is there any timer width adjustment needed here? I will include my code for more clarification.

  • Hi,

Yes, the TIMER_DEFAULT_CONFIG_BIT_WIDTH must be set to '3' in the sdk_config.h header to prevent the counter register from overflowing when using longer delays. Please also note that HF timers will add about 500 uA to the sleep current if left running. If you want to reduce the current consumption, I recommend creating an app timer instance instead. You can use other ble examples such as ble_app_hrs as a reference for how to enable app timer instances. The app timer library runs of the RTC.

    Best regards,

    Vidar
