Not able to flash firmware onto nRf52840 dongle

Hello everyone,

I'm currently using nRf52840 dongle for my project for building communication between nrd52840 dongle and development kit,
I'm currently running the C code on segger embedded system and I'm able to flash the same on the development kit because of the inbuilt J link OB debugger.


But this is not the case on the nRF52840 dongle when I program and try flashing the program using Programmer application from nRF connect for desktop ,we are not able to flash the program, also the dongle resets and the red light stops blinking, and the dongle will also disappear from the select device dropdown box.

Please help me find the solution for the same.

Hi,

The dongle is programmed via USB DFU, and because of that, it includes the MBR and a USB Bootloder. If you are using the nRF5 SDK (which I assuem if you are using Segger Embedded Studio?), you need to make some adjustments to the project in order for it to work on the dongle. Please see the nRF52840 Dongle Programming Tutorial.

Hello Einar,

I did try the above method, upon flashing the program onto nRf52840 dongle, it is resetting and is not being detected by nRf connect for desktop

Hi,

It will no longer be detected by the nRF Connect for dekstop app unless the application you program has the DFU trigger library (see tutorial). So this indicate that it started your application. To get it back in DFU mode, press the sideways reset button.
