Guidance Needed on Antenna Selection for LTE-M, NB-IoT, and GNSS with nRF9160

Hello everyone,

I’m working on an asset tracking project using the nRF9160 as my microcontroller. However, given my limited experience with RF design, I have a few questions about selecting the right antenna. My goal is to use LTE-M, NB-IoT, and GNSS simultaneously. From what I’ve gathered, there are two possible approaches:

  1. Using separate antennas for mobile communication and GNSS.
  2. Using a single antenna that supports both technologies.

Given my cost constraints, I’m inclined to go with the single antenna option. I’d appreciate your insights on the following:

Are there significant drawbacks to using one antenna for both LTE-M/NB-IoT and GNSS? If I decided to go for this approach, which antenna is commonly used in the field without major performance issues? I am happy to listen any suggestions in this topic.

Best regards,

Giray
