Error when build configuration with vs code

Question

Hi, 
 I am using VS code for nordic 9160dk, and when create a new application - copy a sample and choose the Blinky sample / Asset Tracker v2 application , and build configuration, then I got the ERROR: it looks like . is a build directory: did you mean --build-dir . instead? FATAL ERROR: refusing to proceed without --force due to above error. 
 But when I use the Hello World sample, build and flash runs successful. And I also build for Blinky sample successful occasionally. I tried to install the nRF Connect SDK again, but it doesn't work.

Hi, 
 I had the same issue. A few years old project suddenly stopped working (same error). Just with other projects I have no issues. It could be due to new VSCode extensions or nrf SDKs, I did change/install some. 
 The solution for me was to delete the "CMakeCache.txt" file, located at the root of my project. 
 Attached is the problematic file.
