What is the meaning of CONFIG_REBOOT on the nrf9160 series

When working on the NVS sample on a nrf9160 DK , I noticed the option CONFIG_REBOOT=y

However, it is not clear to me why this option is selected in this sample and what exactly it is doing on this particular hardware.

To use the sys_reboot() API, it requires to enable CONFIG_REBOOT.
