SDK v5 doesn't include nrfjprog.exe, what is the best way to flash an image?

I am following app note nAN-29 "nRF51 Development with GCC and Eclipse Application Note v1.1". In the section "Flash download" there is mention of an executable called nrfjprog.exe, but I can't find this in the SDK anywhere. Should this executable come with the SDK? I think the app note was written for an earlier version of the SDK (I have v5, not v4.2). If not, what is the best way to flash an image? Should I use the Segger J-Link flasher?

Sorry for the newbie questions, but thanks for any help. Rich

  • For others finding the above answers to not reflect the reality in the SDK download, please note that from at least version 6.1 the tools have gotten their own installer download. Get it right next to the SDK download.

In general, I think You (Nordic) should either delete or update "nAN-29, nRF51 Development with GCC and Eclipse". I would estimate that >50% of all info in that guide is wrong if you use your current SDK (6.1) and e.g. Luna eclipse version. And for newbies trying to get going that's not a good start :-)
