WiFi sniffer

Hi All,

I am lookging for a way to use the nRF7002 (or other 2.4 GHZ WifI solution) as a WiFi sniffer.

I want the solution to provide, for each WiFi packets in the previously configured channel, the RSSI and timetamp, packet length and datarate.

As an optimal specification, I want to be able to get the time on air occupation of all the WiFi traffic in the 2.4 GHz, related to their RSSI.

You can setup the nRF7002 in monitor mode, as described in this sample:

However, please note that the overall throughput is highly limited by the nrf7002 capabilities, and the host controller (in this case the nRF5340) transport speed:

The throughput of the nRF5340 USB is around 300 kByte/s, which will make the interface drop packets in congested use-cases.

We currently do not offer any wifi monitor mode that can handle such a throughput, unfortunately.
