Is there any hardware limitations that would prevent one from using the nrf_802154 drivers on an nRF9161? If no, could you adapt the open-source sl to use the 9161 modem instead of an nrf5 radio?

Hello,
The nRF9161 is not compliant with 802.15.4.
adapt the open-source sl
Could you please elaborate more on what you are trying to achieve? What is open-source sl?
Kind regards,
Øyvind
Hi,
Thanks for responding! I was hoping to use the 802.15.4 driver and thought that perhaps I could use the open-source service layer that currently works with the nrf5 radio peripheral with the nrf91xx modem. The end goal would be to use the driver through a protocol such as zigbee or thread.
Thanks,
Tony

Hi Tony,
No, unfortunately, this is not possible with the nRF91-series.
Kind regards,
Øyvind
Hi Øyvind,
Could you elaborate a bit on why this isn't possible with the nRF91-series? Is it just not possible with its current hardware?
Hello,
This is due to, among other, the design of the Physical layer and MAC layer of the device which is not designed for IEEE 802.15.4. The modem itself will only work with a modem FW provided by us. More information on the nRF91 series can be found in our Cellular IoT product page.
Kind regards,
Øyvind
