Is the nRF52 device going to support long packets in the future?

I am looking for a device with support for the 4.2, long packets (up to 255 bytes) feature. I see that the nRF52 is a 4.2 device. But for what I understand the optional long data packets is not supported.

Is there a plan to have in the future a new SDK to enable this feature in the device? Is the hardware compatible with it?

  • Nordic continually states that larger MTU is a feature in development, so I'm sure it will turn up sooner or later, along with other great features we're all looking forward to.

  • There is still a chance that the hardware revision used on the preview DKs will not be supported by the SoftDevice and/or SDK at a future point in time, as with the latest SoftDevice s132 alpha release which is incompatible with the first preview DK. Waiting for the full release of the DK may be an option. You can still develop an application using the current board and SD/SDK, and port it to a later SD/SDK when you get the wanted functionality. Regarding the time frame, I am sorry but I can not tell. You may get some more information if talking to a sales representative.
