NRF9161 IMEIs for production without BOX ID.

Hi,

We are starting our first production run. I have studied earlier assigning IMEIs and how to obtain IMEI numbers via Nordic semiconductor up to 100k devices.

We planned to order a full reel of NRF9161 devices from the supplier, but unfortunately, the SMD house accidentally ordered cut tape of modems instead of a full manufacturer reel so we can't request IMEI numbers with BOX ID for the modems because we didn't receive one.

What alternative options do we have for obtaining IMEI codes for our batch? Can development IDs be used in production if we request for example 5x10 IMEIs without box ID or are those only for development purposes?

Maybe there is a way to request IMEIs based on modem identifiers that are available on the data matrix on top of the modems?

  • How can we obtain the IMEI if we received more than 100 nRF9161 from Digikey, and do not have BOXID / REELCODE?  Is it printed anywhere on the Digikey label packaging?

We have a similar problem.  We obtained quantities ~1050 of nRF9161 from Digikey for initial PVT production run -- but it is stated "Developer Flow" is restricted to 100 IMEI.

  • Hi jj,

My couple cents since we found our codes.

I can let you know that as far as you ordered full reels in the nordic packaging the code for obtaining imeis should be printed on the side of the reel. However, code is not named "box id" on the side of the reel itself.

Unfortunately I cant check how code itself looks but maybe you can try codes you can find from the reel and eventually you find out working code for obtaining imeis.

If you have ordered different packaging than original reel then there might be a problem...(Cut tape, digireel etc..)
