It depends on which proprietary mode you are referring to.
In ESB there is no security built in, so any security there must be fully handled by layers above ESB.
For Gazell, you can add the Gazell pairing library, which will ensure security, as discussed here:

I am not aware of any vulnerabilities in Gazell.
