Battery Interface for Charging

Hey Team,

While connecting the battery to the nRF5340 Audio DK, we have observed that it only charges the batteries with 3 pin connector is being charged. However when we try connecting batteries with 2 wires (VDD and GND) to the battery connector port of the nRF5340 Audio DK, they are not being charged. Please help us clarify if the nPM IC can only charge 3 pin batteries and not the simple 2 pin ones. If yes, then please provide us suggestions for charging the 2 pin batteries via nRF5340 Audio DK battery connector.

Hi,

From nPM1100 docs on Battery thermal protection using NTC thermistor (NTC):

"

If the thermal protection feature is not used, then a 10 kΩ, ≤20% accuracy resistor should be connected between NTC and AVSS pins.

"

As you see, a Hardware change is needed to disable the NTC feature. Therefore you must use all three pins for the nRF5340 Audio DK. If you design your own hardware, you can design it so that this is not needed though.

We have tried the suggested way of connecting the NTC to AVSS with 10k ohm resistor, and its works on both the nRF5340 Audio DK and on custom PCB.
